By Chanz Returns to Countryside Concert Series

On Friday June 21, 2002, at 7:00 PM, By Chanz will return for the second time to give a performance at the summer Concerts in Countryside series.  By Chanz performs pop music fused with rap and laced with a tinge of R&B.  Last summer By Chanz performed to a crowd of over 500 people and signed over 300 publicity pictures for the kids who attended the concert.  Their return this summer will be marked by several new original songs written by members of the group including Angel for Tonight, which won the radio WIHT, HOT 99.5 "Mark Anthony's Big Break" talent contest in April and Forgotten Memories which was recently recorded at Dark Horse Studios near Nashville.  They will also perform their original standards, What, What Did I Say? and, Beat of Your Heart, which won silver and gold awards in the "Hip Hop" and "Pop" categories of the 18th Annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest in November 2001.  The former song also won third place in the 2001 TEEN PEOPLE magazine "Five Live Search" contest that was searching for the best teen bands in the nation.

In addition to several familiar cover tunes, By Chanz will also perform other original songs such as More Than Friend, recorded last November at 21 Street Studios in Northern Virginia and Get Your Story Straight, a new original song written by Kelley Hagood, 19, a rising sophomore at Middle Tennessee State University and the By Chanz frontwoman.  The other two members of this talented trio are Sarah Luhrs, 16, and Lauren Samllwood, 15, both of whom attend high school in Loudoun County.

Over the last year By Chanz has performed during the Philadelphia Music Conference, Leesburg Flower and Garden Festival, the Reston Festival, and SterlingFest.  They also opened for the nationally known R&B group City High at The Planet Club, Northern Virginia's premiere teen nightclub in November 2001.  By Chanz' music has also been featured on Fox 5 Morning News, Loudoun Channel 3, Reston Community TV Channel 8, and a Fairfax Channel 10 comedy show called The Nooz.

By Chanz will sell CDs and logo tee shirts after the concert and sign free copies of their new publicity photo.  Bring a lawn chair, picnic basket, and some cold drinks and enjoy an evening of contemporary music underneath the stars.

This free concert will occur at the Parkway Grounds at 5 Algonkian Parkway in Sterling, VA.  In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside to Algonkian Elementary School.  For more information about the Countryside Concert Series, contact Margo Kerns at (703) 430-0715.  To learn more about By Chanz, go to their website www.bychanz.com
