Lauren Smallwood, 14, is a vocalist who has performed as part of her school chorus and church choir for the last three years where she has performed numerous solos.  She is a student at Loudoun County High School in Leesburg, VA.

Lauren’s interests include swimming, cheerleading, dancing and singing.  Lauren has been a member of several community swim teams since she was six years old.  She was a cheerleader for the Central Loudoun Youth Football League for four years during which she choreographed several of the troupe’s cheerleading routines.

However, Lauren’s first love is singing.  She first sang publicly at her church.  And, during the 5th grade, she performed a solo at a Cool Spring Elementary School choral program.  Lauren also performed in a number of variety shows at Simpson Middle.  This year she received superior ratings in a school-sponsored choral competition.

Lauren is also a songwriter and has filled a notebook with original songs.  She recently recorded one of her songs, What, What Did I Say?, co-written with  fellow By Chanz member, Kelley Hagood, on May 18-19, 2001 at 21st  Street Studios in Northern Virginia.  The song depicts the story of a teen girl trying to explain to her former wayward boyfriend that their relationship is over.

Her influences include TLC, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Eminem.  Lauren has set a goal to become the youngest white female rap artist on the Billboard magazine charts.
